In July of 2015 3-year-old Stephanie Martinez fell approximately five stories to her death at an Embassy Suites in Anaheim, California. Stephanie and her family were visiting California on a trip to Disneyland. Stephanie’s parents, Jesus Martinez Avila and Alejandra Sandoval Duran, brought a lawsuit against the hotel’s owners and the property management company that controlled the premises on the date of the fatality. The lawsuit alleged negligence against the defendants which resulted in the death of the toddler.
It was reported that Stephanie Martinez left her parents’ hotel room while the mother was in the shower. The little girl fell to her death after climbing over the balcony railing on the fifth-floor walkway in the indoor courtyard. Family members stated to the press that Stephanie was likely trying to reach the other family members that were at the ground level in the indoor courtyard. The lawsuit alleged that “dangerous, defective and unsafe” conditions at the hotel proximately caused Stephanie’s fall and ultimate death.
Recently, attorneys for Stephanie Martinez’s parents filed a settlement notice indicating to the court that a settlement had been reached in the case. The notice did not provide any details regarding the settlement and the lawyers for the parties involved in the settlement have not responded to requests for comment from the press.
