More than 190,000 Ceiling Fans Sold at The Home Depot are Recalled

A recall was recently issued for over 190,000 fans that were sold by The Home Depot between April through October of this year. The recall resulted from approximately 50 reports of blades detaching from the fans while in use. Numerous reports of the issue mentioned that people were struck by fan blades that detached while in use.

The recall involves the Hampton Bay 54-Inch Mara Indoor/Outdoor in matte white, matte black, black and polished nickel finishes. The Consumer Product Safety Commission instructed consumers to immediately stop using the fans and added that if consumers notice “blade movement or uneven faps between the blades and fan body” they should contact the distributor of the fans, King of Fans, for a free replacement.

King of Fans issued a statement in which it attributed the issue to an “isolated manufacturing defect.” King of Fans also provided a link on its website to a video instructing consumers how to determine if their fan is defective.
