Pressure Cooker Explodes and Causes Injuries

In June of 2019, Cynthia Wallace was using her pressure cooker when it exploded. As a result of the explosion, Ms. Wallace suffered numerous thermal burns to her body. She has filed suit against NuWave, LLC, who is the manufacturer of the Nutri-Pot pressure cooker. She has alleged that NuWave misrepresented the safety of their pressure cookers.

In her suit, Ms. Wallace has claimed that NuWave markets their pressure cookers as having certain safety features. Generally, when a lid is placed on a pressure cooker, it creates a seal that allows pressure to build up in the cooker itself. To unlock the pressure cooker and remove the lid, the pressure must first be released. Ms. Wallace has alleged that the safety features marketed by NuWave included prevention of the pressure cooker from not only building pressure if the lid was not closed properly, but also prevention of the lid from being removed until all the pressure was released. As a result of NuWave’s misrepresentation, Ms. Wallace has alleged her pressure cooker exploded and caused her injury.
