Dieting Driver Kills Woman

In today’s world, new diets and weight loss programs are ubiquitous. One such diet trend is called the Whole 30 Diet, which doesn’t allow the consumption of milk, cheese, sugar, bread, legumes or alcohol for 30 days. In essence, the Whole 30 Diet strips the most common comfort foods completely from your diet. The diet is intended to restore a healthy relationship with food and your body and promote weight loss.

However, the Whole 30 Diet has recently been blamed for causing an Oregon driver to become lightheaded impairing his ability operate a vehicle. In this case, driver Robert Morgan struck Susan Matthies as she loaded groceries into her car in the parking lot of the Dallas Safeway in Polk County. Morgan attributed his impairment to the Whole 30 Diet causing him to feel nauseous, lightheaded, and ultimately causing him to crash into Matthies and her car. Susan Matthies was only 68 at the time of her tragic death.

Morgan has since had a $3.56 lawsuit filed against him by Matthies’ estate. Because evidence has not shown that Morgan was intoxicated or criminally negligent, Polk County District has not criminally charged him at this time. However, Matthies’ estate is currently seeking $3.5M from Morgan for negligently causing Matthies’ death.
