Unsafe Rear Shock Leads to Recall

Cane Creek has issued a recall for their DBINLINE Rear Shock. The shocks have labels which indicates the direction to turn a knob on the shock to adjust the High Speed Rebound (“HSR”) damping. The adjuster works by turning the knob counter clock wise to increase tension and counter clockwise to decrease it. The problem with the labels is that they direct the rider to spin the adjuster in the opposite direction from the desired result. Put plainly, the plus and minus symbols are switched.

Consumers can expect to purchase the DBINLINE Rear Shock for around $495.00. The shock is available for purchase in black and is designed for use with full suspension bikes. Although this shock is sold as an after-market part, it is often times pre-attached to a number of bikes. The following list contains the bicycles sold with the DBINLINE Rear Shock already installed:

The serial numbers fall between the fallowing two ranges, AA00002 – AA07304 and SA00077 – SA03926. According to the CPSC, there have been four incidents resulting from the incorrect shock adjustment instructions. One indecent resulted in injury to the rider’s abdomen. Cane Creek maintains that riders should stop using the product and contact Cane Creek. Cane Creek will solve this issue by replacing the current decal on the shock with a new correct one.
