TESLA DRIVERS HAVE HIGHEST ACCIDENT RATES

A new report from LendingTree found that Tesla drivers have the highest accident rate compared to drivers from other car brands. To prepare the report, LendingTree used auto insurance data and reviewed information for 30 car brands with the highest number of quotes. The data revealed that Tesla drivers have the highest accident rate.

Tesla drivers had 23.54 accidents per 1,000 drivers. Ram was next at 22.76 accidents per 1,000 drivers, followed by Subaru with nearly 21 accidents per 1,000 drivers. The LendingTree report had a separate category for “worst drivers.” Tesla did not take the crown for this category – the worst drivers went to Ram, whose operators had 33 incidents per 1,000 drivers. Driving incidents include accidents, DUIs, speeding, and citations.

LendingTree noted in the report that it is difficult to pinpoint why some brands have higher accident rates than others. Some vehicles tend to lure riskier drivers. For example, minivans are a type of vehicle that tend to attract less-risky drivers and Tesla does not make or sell a minivan. The report did note that there are themes in crash statistics – speeding, impairment, and distracted driving are among the leading causes of car accidents. Additionally, each of these are behaviors within our control.
