In December of 2023, Empower Brands issued a recall of approximately 319,000 of its air fryers after 41 reports of the products breaking during use, and, in some instances, causing burns. The recall included two models of Empower Brands’ PowerXL dual-basket air fryer. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, a plastic U-Channel connector used to combine the two food baskets inside of the air fryers poses a burn hazard by potentially breaking during use.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission also reports that of the 41 reported incidents of Empower Brands’ air fryers breaking during use, three included reports of burns.

The air fryers were sold at retailers including Target, Walmart, Kohls, and other stores nationwide for between $60 and $190.

The recall stated that consumers should immediately stop using the air fryers and contact Empower Brands to receive a full refund. The air fryers were sold in black and cinnamon colors and included the 10-quart DUAF-10 and 9-quart DUAF-005 models.
