As recently reported in the Houston Chronicle, five people were killed, and five were seriously injured after a truck overturned in central Illinois, causing a toxic substance to leak from its cargo and forcing the evacuation of hundreds of area residents.
A semi truck, carrying caustic chemicals toppled over in the middle of the night in Springfield, Illinois. The medical examiner said that five people died, including three from the same family. The other two were adult motorists from out of state. Additionally, five people were airlifted to area hospitals.
The National Transportation Safety Board is reviewing the crash.
About 500 residents within a 1 mile radius of the crash site were evacuated.
