Woman Struck & Killed by 18-Wheeler: Driver Fled Scene

On September 22, 2023, a woman out with her friends died when she lost consciousness, fell into the street, and was hit by an unidentified passing 18-wheeler. The Hoston Police Department reported that the driver behind the wheel of the tractor-trailer drove away from the scene at the 900 block of Franklin Street near Travis Street in downtown, Houston, Texas.

HPD Commander R. Hardy reported the incident took place around 7:00 p.m., when a friend of the victim reported to police that the victim was not feeling well. The woman, believed to be in her 20’s, then collapsed on the roadway and was struck by 18-wheeler was passing by. The woman was reported to have died at the scene.

According to authorities, it is currently unknown if the driver intentionally fled the scene. The 18-wheeler was reported to be a grey truck with clear white trailer. Police are currently working to find out if any TxDOT serial numbers were on the vehicle, and urge the company who owns the tractor-trailer to contact HPD’s Vehicular Crimes Division for further investigation. Commissioner Hardy concluded that it will be up to the investigation to determine the driver’s culpability as police search for the tractor-trailer.
