Child Among Three Killed at San Leon Intersection in One Month

A nine-year-old boy was taken off life support after being hit by a truck on the street in front of his San Leon home days earlier. The boy and his sister were preparing to go on a bike ride at about 7:30 p.m. As they left, surveillance video shows the boy riding his bike onto 22nd Street before being struck by a truck turning left from FM 517.

The driver remained at the scene of the crash, and the boy was rushed to the hospital. According to the crash report, the driver stopped on FM 517 before turning and stated that he did not see the nine-year-old. The child’s family, however, says their surveillance video indicates the man did not stop before turning.

Less than a month before the crash, two others were killed in a motorcycle crash at the same intersection. The speed limit in this area is 50 mph, and the family says speed is an issue with drivers daily. They want a traffic light installed at the intersection to prevent others from losing their lives. For now, a cross is set up in memorial of the victims.
