Teen Dead After Vehicle Crash in Athens, Texas

Around 7:39 p.m. one evening in late August, 2023, a two-vehicle crash occurred on TX-19, approximately 0.3 miles east of Athens, Texas. Officials report that the crash occurred when the driver of a Chrysler Sebring, traveling eastbound, lost control of his vehicle and crossed into the westbound lane of traffic, causing the driver of a Lincoln Corsair, traveling at a high rate of speed, striking the Chrysler.

The driver of the Chrysler is believed to be a 16-year-old from Murchison, Texas. Investigators report that the teen died immediately due to the force of the wreck, and the teen was pronounced dead at the scene. The 87-year-old driver of the Lincoln was taken to UT Health to receive treatment for his injuries. The severity of the 87-year-old driver’s injuries has not been released. According to a report, the road was wet due to recent rain. DPS officials report that the investigation is ongoing.
