On August 10, 2023, Target issued a recall of 2.2 million Threshold Candles due to laceration and burn hazards. The recall affects certain Threshold Glass Jar candles in 5.5-ounce 1 wick and 20 ounce 2-wick candles sold in multiple scents. These candles were sold exclusively at Target stores nationwide and online between February 2020 through July 2023.

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the jars of these candles can break during use, risking burns and lacerations. Target has received over 19 reports of candle jars breaking or cracking during use resulting in injury. Consumers using the recalled Threshold products should “immediately stop using the recalled candles.”

Threshold candles have faced previous recalls. Back in May 2023, Target recalled nearly 5 million Threshold candles due to safety concerns similar to those posed in the August recall. At the time of the May recall, Target was informed of more than 137 incidents where the candle jars shattered or developed cracks while being used, resulting in six documented injures involving lacerations and severe burns.
