Motorcyclist Dead After Crash With Tractor-Trailer

On July 27, 2023, Houston police received reports of a crash that occurred in the 1000 block of the Southwest Freeway around 12:15 p.m. The crash involved a 23-year-old man driving a Honda motorcycle and a tractor-trailer. The motorcyclist was allegedly driving at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic when he entered the lane behind the tractor-trailer. The tractor-trailer braked heavily, which in turn caused the motorcyclist to brake. However, unfortunately, he was not able to stop on time and crashed into the rear end of the trailer.

The motorcyclist lost control and fell to the ground. The force of the impact and the high rate of speed caused serious injuries to the motorcyclist. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The tractor-trailer driver remained on the scene to help authorities. He was found to not be impaired and, after questioning from the police, he was allowed to leave.

The incident, and subsequent investigation, led to lane closures at the Southwest Freeway. Cars were re-directed to move away from the scene.
