On May 5, 2023, officials reported an explosion at the Shell Chemical Plant located in the 5900 Highway 225 near Center Street, in Deer Park, Texas.
The explosion occurred at the Shell Chemical Plant along Highway 225 near Center Street, on Friday, May 5, 2023. Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez tweeted that there was a heat exchange between two heavy gas oils.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez also reported that Harris County Fire Marshall’s Office will lead the investigation in coordination with multi-agency response. Several people reported hearing the explosion from miles away. At least nine contractors were reportedly injured and transported to hospital.
