Passenger Killed and Driver Injured after 18-Wheeler Loses Tire and Strikes Vehicle

On April 13, 2023, an 18-wheeler was traveling eastbound on Katy Freeway when it lost a tire, bounced into the westbound lanes near Bunker Hill, and struck a vehicle. According to Harris County authorities, the impact of the tire hitting the car killed the front seat passenger and caused the driver to lose control and crash into a wall. The driver of the 18-wheeler did not stop.

Trucking collisions and incidents involving large 18-wheelers take the lives of many people each year. The death of a loved one is always a painful and traumatic event. In addition to suffering emotionally, friends and family members may find themselves in a precarious financial situation due to the significant medical, funeral, and burial expenses, as well as the loss of income that was brought in to support the family.

To make matters worse, claims involving 18-wheelers are often complex because there are usually multiple parties that may be responsible for the incident, including: the truck driver, the truck driver’s company/employer, the manufacturer of the truck, a freight shipping company, a broker, and third parties who serviced the vehicle.

Due to the complexities involved with 18-wheeler accidents, it is important to hire an experienced trucking attorney as soon as possible to investigate the incident to hold all responsible parties accountable.
