Man Struck and Killed by Drunk Driver in Montrose

On April 19, 2023 at approximately 2:25 a.m., Joseph McMullin was struck and killed by a vehicle in the 1200 block of Westheimer Road in Houston, Texas. Court documents reveal that 32-year-old Kristina Chambers was behind the wheel of the vehicle with a blood alcohol limit nearly four times the legal limit of .08%. Authorities believe that at the time of the crash, Ms. Chambers was traveling 100 mph in a 35 mph zone.

Mr. McMullin was on a first date at the time of the incident, leaving a Voodoo Donut Shop in Montrose with Ms. Briana Iturrino after a night of karaoke. As the pair left the Voodoo Donut Shop, a blue Porsche 911 Carrera lost control and jumped the curb onto the sidewalk where it struck Mr. McMullin, the force of which threw him a distance away. Ms. Iturrino tragically witnessed the fatal event as the vehicle’s headlights approached at high speed. The vehicle came to a rest only when it struck a utility pole.

Driver Kristina Chambers has been charged with felony intoxication manslaughter. In the vehicle with her was another woman and a man. All three individuals were transported by ambulance to the hospital. Ms. Chambers was released from the hospital and booked into jail on Monday, April 24.

It is devastating when a tragedy such as this claims a life, especially that of a young, hopeful individual like Mr. McMullin who had his entire life ahead of him.
