On March 22, 2023, officials reported an explosion at the INEOS Phenol plant located in the 3500 block of Pasadena Freeway.

The explosion occurred around 11:45 am at the INEOS Phenol plant along Highway 225 near the East Beltway, on Wednesday, March 22, 2023. Fire officials said the fire was caused when a liquid petroleum gas explosion occurred while liquid bulk trucks were delivering raw materials. Several people reported hearing the explosion from miles away. Some workers were reportedly injured.

In recent years we have had numerous explosions in Harris County and surrounding cities. Chemical plant explosions unfortunately result in catastrophic injuries and many workers while trying to flee the chemical plant from the blast their injuries are worsened. Evacuating a chemical plant after the initial blast is often traumatic for every worker in the plant because everyone is afraid of secondary explosion.
