Senior Citizen Killed by Collision with Police Cruiser Near Texas City

On Friday, March 24, 2023, Benny Agosto, Jr. and Barney Dill of the law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner, filed suit on behalf of Lois Weaver, the daughter of George Arness now deceased. The lawsuit is filed in Galveston County District Court against the City of Texas City, for Mr. Arness’ wrongful death. 

Mr. Arness died on Saturday, March 18, 2023 when his vehicle was struck by a police cruiser around 10:00 PM. According to eyewitness accounts, Mr. Arness died at the scene as he waited for medical attention.  Also in the vehicle was Mr. Arness’ adult daughter who is reported to be recovering in the hospital. 

Officer Joseph Wagner of the Texas City Police Department was reportedly driving the cruiser that struck Mr. Arness, causing his death. According to witnesses at the scene, the police officer was neither using his lights nor a siren when he ran a red light at the corner of FM 1764 and FM 2004 in La Marque, Texas. Mr. Arness was reported to be turning into the Wal-Mart when the police car collided with his vehicle.

A press conference was conducted by Galveston County’s Sheriff’s Office on Monday, March 20, 2023, where Sheriff Henry A. Trochesset stated that his office was investigating the conduct of the officer. Sheriff Trochesset stated that at the completion of the investigation, the evidence would be presented to the Galveston County District Attorney’s Office.
