Golf Cart Accidents in Galveston, TX

Officials in Galveston are considering golf cart bans following a fatal crash in early August. A grandfather, two of his grandchildren, and an adult relative were killed in a weekend collision involving a golf cart and an SUV in Galveston, Texas. The fatal crash occurred around 11:30 p.m. on 33rd Street, a few blocks away from Seawall Boulevard.

According to investigating officers, a black Hyundai SUV failed to stop at an intersection hitting the golf cart and a black Dodge truck. The negligent driver was later identified as Miguel Espinoza, 45, from Rosenburg. After further investigation, it was found that Espinoza was driving while intoxicated and is facing 4 counts of intoxication manslaughter.

At a Galveston City Council meeting, members discussed new restrictions for the1,743 permitted golf carts in the city, including bans on children under 12 from riding in them, prohibiting nighttime driving, and banning golf cart rental companies altogether.

According to Galveston police, there have been 32 golf cart accidents between June 2021 and August 2022, 12 resulting in injuries, 2 of which led to deaths.
