Deadly Houston Neighborhood ATV Crash Potentially Caused by Mechanical Failure

In June of 2021, a 57-year-old man was operating an all-terrain vehicle (“ATV”) in his own neighborhood when it crashed into a curb, launching the man from his ATV and onto the road. Firefighters and paramedics arrived at the scene and took the man to the hospital; however, medical efforts failed and the man died at the hospital due to injuries he suffered in the incident. While the incident remains under investigation, investigators believe that a loose bolt may have caused the vehicle’s tire to lock up, causing the ATV to crash into a curb.

Deadly ATV incidents are becoming more commonplace. In early July of 2021, an 18-year-old recent high school graduate died in another ATV crash. The 18-year-old was a passenger in an ATV that went into a ditch and overturned into a fence. Like the 57-year-old man, the 18-year-old also died after being transported to the hospital for his injuries.
