Chambers County Lineman Killed and Another Critically Injured in 106 Ft Fall

An industrial incident in Chambers County, Texas on early Sunday morning left one lineman dead and another in critical condition. The incident occurred just outside the city limits of Mont Belvieu, Texas to the east of Houston.

Investigations into the tragic events remain ongoing, but it appears two linemen who were working on a high voltage transmission line about 106 ft above the ground fell when the metal basket they were working from became unstable, detached from a crane, and suddenly crashed to the ground.  One of the workers was pronounced dead at the scene while another was transported to a local hospital and reported to be in critical condition.

The incident is a grim reminder of the dangers faced everyday by industrial workers and the critical importance of safety for employers, contractors, and equipment manufacturers. The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics lists linemen among the top ten most dangerous jobs in the United States according to the Bureau’s most recent census. Often unseen as they work high above, linemen work around dangerous electrical currents and at incredible heights. With these heightened dangers known to be in play, safety is key.
