BMW Recalls Motorcycles Over Leaky Front Brake Calipers

BMW issued a recall for a number of its 2019 and 2020 motorcycles because of faulty front brake calipers because these critical components can leak when parked, which can lead to a dangerous loss in stopping power if the fluid reservoir gets depleted. In addition to the recall, a stop-sale has been issued on new models as well.

The recall applies to a range of motorcycles including the R 1250 GS, R 1250 GS Adventure, R 1250 RT, S 1000 RR and the S 1000 XR. The affected models were manufactured from August 2018 to February 2020.

BMW says it will contact owners about replacing the faulty components with an updated design for free, which is expected to begin on October 6, 2020. However, in the meantime owners who are unaware of the recall and continue to use these model motorcycles could become involved in serious accidents if their brakes fail.
