As automobile recalls become a more and more common occurrence, it is important to stay up-to-date. Please check the NHTSA safercar.gov website regularly to verify that your vehicle is not currently affected by a defect or recall.
Here are a few of the most recent automobile recalls that may affect your household:
- Takata announced recalls for 35-40 million more airbags this month – related to the same explosion risk as the millions of others already announced. The grand total of U.S. Takata airbag recalls is 69 million currently. This hefty number of recalled airbags means that it may take until 2019 to replace them all. Only 8 million have been replaced thus far. Because of the proven wrongful death auto accident cases tied to the defective Takata airbags and the 100+ injury-related instances, it is worrisome that many of us will have to continue driving with these defective parts in place for so long.
- General Motors recalled approximately 4,800 Chevrolet, GMC, and Cadillac vehicles because of a suspension issue in early May. The specific issue is that front control arms may be welded incorrectly, which increases the risk of crashes significantly. If your vehicle is affected, GM requests that you cease driving until the issue is corrected.
- Ford announced an 81,000-vehicle recall in late April due to suspension issues similar to the GM recall above, as well as transmission defects. 2014-2015 Explorer and Police Interceptor vehicles, 2011-2012 F-150, 2012 Ford Expedition, certain Ford Mustangs and Lincoln Navigators are all included in this recall.
- Fiat Chrysler announced a recall due to unexpected rolling and transmission issues on 1.1 million automobiles.
- GMC Sierra 1500 and 2014-2015 Chevy Silverado pickup trucks were included in a faulty seat belt recall announced in April. The total number of trucks included in the recall is 1.04 million.
