How can I avoid drunk driving accidents?

Texas is known for its high rate of drunk driving arrests and accidents. While local authorities continue to do their part in pinpointing these drivers, it is impossible to keep all these people off the road.

As a driver, it is your responsibility to make sure you are 100 percent sober every time you get behind the wheel. Even then, however, this is no guarantee that you will not be involved in a drunk driving accident. You may be sober, but another driver could be beyond the legal limit.

There are steps you can take to avoid people who have been drinking and driving, such as knowing the common signs of drunk driving:

— Driving recklessly

— Driving at an extremely slow speed

— Making wide turns

— Weaving, drifting, or crossing over the center line

— Stopping without a cause

— Not obeying the rules of the road, such as stop signs and traffic signals

— Driving after dark without headlights

— Making illegal or abrupt turns

As you make your way down the road, pay attention to other drivers. If you recognize one or more of the signs above, it is essential to remove yourself from the situation as soon as possible. If you aren’t around this driver you can’t be sucked into an accident.

Even the most cautious and aware drivers can still be involved in drunk driving accidents. When this happens, the victims are often faced with medical treatment, sometimes over the long run. Along with this, they may want to consider filing lawsuits, which also takes time, money, and resources.
