5 Unhealthy Habits You Should Kick in 2013

Start the New Year off right by ridding your life of the following top five most common bad habits, as recently reported by Living magazine.

First, working out not only assists with weight loss, but it also makes you a happier person. With only 30 minutes of physical activity a day, you can reap the benefits of exercise.

Second, eating better can be accomplished by: proper portion control, eating lean meats, and low-glycemic carbs, including fruits, vegetables, and brown rice. Monitoring what you eat by avoiding ultra-processed and additive-packed foods may also decrease health issues, such as increased blood pressure, diabetes, and heart disease.

Third, getting enough sleep is essential because a lack thereof can outweigh other healthy lifestyle habits and can cause weight gain, an increased risk of inflammatory related diseases and other autoimmune-related problems.

Fourth, yearly checkups with your primary care physician can mean prevention or earlier detection of health problems.

Finally, water is the main nutrient transport system of the body and if you are dehydrated, it makes nutrient transport difficult, leaving you lethargic. It is suggested to drink two glasses of water before work, then another two glasses before lunch; over time it will become a good habit.
