Lasko Products Inc. recalls over 4 million fans after 7 fires reported

Lasko Products Inc. recalled 4.8 million of its box fans after seven reports of fires, including two in houses and one in a barn according to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission. The commission says that an electrical failure in the fan motor creates a fire hazard. No one has been injured yet but the fires have caused extensive property damage.

Included in the recall are Lasko box fans with model numbers 3720, 3723, 3733 and Galaxy box fans with model number 4733 with the date “2002-03” or “2003-04” stamped on the bottom of the metal frame. The fans were sold at stores nationwide from July 2002 though December 2005 for $12 to $25.

Consumers should immediately discontinue use of the fans but could call Lasko to get a free fused plug safety adapter. Lasko also said only its box fans are affected by the recall.
