Parents of Six-Year-Old Hit and Killed by School Bus File Suit Against School District and Manufacturer of Bus

Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner partner, Mo Aziz, and attorneys, Karl Long and Morgan Mills, together with Nicholas A. Rodriguez and Kevin A. Koudelka, of Richardson Koudelka, LLP, filed a wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of Sean and Tori Sayre, Individually and as Representatives of the Estate of Emory Sayre, Deceased. The lawsuit has named Brock Independent School District, Rush Truck Centers of Texas, L.P., and Blue Bird Body Company as defendants.

On April 25, 2022, six-year-old Emory Sayre was tragically killed after being run over by a Brock ISD school bus. While unloading at the stop across from her house, Emory was the last of three students to walk in front of the bus before crossing the street. As Emory began walking in front of the bus, the bus driver started driving away unaware that a child was present. Emory was hit and fell under the front right of the bus, sustaining fatal injuries.

Claims for negligence and strict liability have been brought against the school district as well as the manufacturer and seller of the school bus alleging that the bus was unreasonably dangerous due to not having proper student detection/monitoring systems. The Parents of Emory Sayre are seeking damages over $1,000,000.00. Life-saving technologies designed to prevent tragedies such as this have been available for years and should be required given the gravity of the dangers involved.
