The law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner is investigating the tragic death of Jose Dario Juarez, whose body was recovered from the Brazos River following a construction accident on a pedestrian bridge that leads to Baylor University’s brand new $250 million football stadium. The stadium is scheduled to open later this year.

The construction platform Juarez was on collapsed from a bridge that connects the university campus to the new athletic complex. The victim and his coworker were tethered to the platform that was attached to a crane when it suddenly collapsed. The victim’s coworker was able to untie himself and was rushed to a nearby hospital with hypothermia. The victim unfortunately failed to surface from the river as he was unable to untie the tether around him.
After nearly four hours of searching in water as deep as 20 feet, dive teams were finally able to find the body of Jose Suarez.
Baylor University chancellor Ken Starr said in a statement “All of Baylor Nation extends our deepest sympathies as we remember in our prayers Jose Suarez and all those whom he loved.”
This accident is less than two months after a construction worker fell to his death in a Caterpillar loading machine during renovations at Texas A&M’s Kyle Field. A federal investigation into safety standards at the A&M building site is underway. The worker’s family meanwhile has filed suit against the contractors involved in the $450 million renovation effort.
A spokeswoman from Austin Industries, one of the building firms leading the Baylor stadium construction says his company is “cooperating in all investigations” related to Juarez’s tragic death.
