Worker Severely Injured in Conroe Construction Home Collapse Files Lawsuit against Lennar Homes

Houston, Texas (May 26, 2023) — Partner Mo Aziz and attorney Jessie Ormand of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner along with attorney Hilda Sibrian of The Law Offices of Hilda L. Sibrian, P.C., have filed a lawsuit on behalf of Omar Jimenez Medina, one of the seven workers injured during the home collapse that occurred in Conroe, Texas on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 23, 2023. In addition to the seven men injured, two men were tragically killed during this home collapse as well.

The collapse occurred at a construction site in Conroe’s new Ladera Creek community as severe weather hit the area on Tuesday. The workers on site were building a two- story home when the severe weather began rolling in and causing significant damage across the area. Despite this, the workers were not sent home and were left to seek shelter in the half-constructed home they were building. During the storm, the half-constructed home collapsed and came down on top of the workers, sending seven of the workers to local hospitals and killing two at the scene.

Homebuilding company and site owner, Lennar Homes, failed to provide these workers with proper safety equipment, failed to provide procedures to protect the men during the severe weather, and resulted in two fatalities and catastrophic injuries to the seven workers.

Mr. Medina was transported to a local hospital for injuries to his head, face, neck, back, and legs. He also suffered severe lacerations to multiple parts of his body as well as a traumatic brain injury from surviving the home collapse.

Commenting on the lawsuit, Attorney Mo Aziz said, “Construction sites, similar to refineries and oil and gas production sites, should have a severe weather plan. Lennar Homes did nothing to protect these men, despite it being a well-known industry standard to have policies and procedures in place to prevent injuries or death during a severe weather event such as this.”

Abraham Watkins partner Mo Aziz, attorney Hilda Sibrian, and Mr. Medina will be available during a press conference on Friday, May 26th at 11:30 a.m. to answer questions regarding the lawsuit. The press conference is open to all media and will be held at the Abraham Watkins law office located at 800 Commerce Street, Houston, Texas 77002.
