Houston attorneys, Mo Aziz of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner, and Bilaal Badat have filed suit against Knightvest Management, LLC, Knightvest, LLC, Massandra KV Regency, LLC, and Massandra KV Regency, LLC d/b/a Alys Luxury Living after a physician was fatally stabbed inside her apartment complex on October 28, 2023.

The stabbing took place around 12:30 p.m. in a common area of the Alys Luxury Living Apartments. On the date of the incident, the property had a security checkpoint booth, which was unmanned, an electronic entry keypad, which was inoperable, and the gates left open. There was no control of ingress and egress in the complex. Evidence shows this exact circumstance existed before, during, and even months after the death of Dr. Khan.

Crime statistics for the apartment complex reveal a series of violent crimes in close proximity including, but not limited to, burglaries, aggravated assaults, and homicides from the end of 2018 through the end of 2023. Dr. Talat Jehan Khan was a respected and loved pediatrician at Texas Children’s Pediatrics. Dr. Khan left behind her husband and two children.

Commenting on the lawsuit, Attorney Mo Aziz said, “Apartment complexes and the management companies that own and operate them, have a duty to maintain the safety of the premises. The danger of ill-maintained and inoperable gates is foreseeable, yet management companies, and their employees, fail to repair or remedy the dangerous condition.”

Adding more, Attorney Bilaal Badat stated, “Dr. Khan left behind her family and home to serve a community in need, only to be murdered in the complex she entrusted to protect her. Violent crimes in apartment complexes have become rampant in Houston and surrounding counties, giving even more reason for these complexes to protect their tenants from clearly foreseeable actions.
