Attorney Benny Agosto, Jr., a partner in the Houston personal injury law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner, was named Hispanic Male Executive of the Year at the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Annual Awards Gala. The award presentation took place on November 1, 2014 at the Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.
Mr. Agosto is involved with many local and national organizations that promote and support the Hispanic legal community, focusing particularly on providing opportunities to students pursuing law degrees. He has been the national president of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and president of the Mexican-American Bar Association of Texas. As the founder of the Mexican American Bar Association of Texas (MABATx) Foundation, he has built an important source of scholarships for Hispanic law students. He is also a co-founder and current president of the HNBA’s Legal Education Fund, another source of funding for Hispanic law students.
Mr. Agosto’s outreach to the Hispanic community also includes presentations to students of all ages, from elementary school through law school. He frequently speaks on the importance of jury service and of the role of the Constitution of the United States in protecting and guaranteeing the rights of citizens. His presentations on these topics are not limited to the Hispanic community but are also offered to other lawyers, business-people, and law professors throughout Texas and the United States.
In 2014 alone, Mr. Agosto was named Trailblazer Outside Counsel of the Year by the Texas Minority Counsel Program and will be named Civil Rights Hero by the Anti-Defamation League on November 13. He has also been recognized in a variety of publications this year, including Texas’ Top Rated Lawyers, Texas Super Lawyers, and The Best Lawyers in America© in the Personal Injury Litigation – Plaintiffs section.
The Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (HHCC) advocates for the economic and civic interests of the Houston Hispanic business community. The organization collects and disseminates information and resources of interest and sponsors an annual awards gala, an opportunity for the organization to show its appreciation for top Hispanic entrepreneurs and executives in the Houston area. The gala consistently attracts more than 1,000 attendees each year.
