Liberty County has hired Houston attorneys Mo Aziz of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner and Earnest Wotring of Baker Wotring, LLP to pursue claims against Arkema, Inc. arising from a series of toxic releases resulting from fires and explosions during Hurricane Harvey.

EPA Records show a toxic mixture of chemicals in the atmosphere during and after the fires.

The lawsuit filed in Liberty County State District Court alleges violation of the Texas Clean Air Act, Texas Water Code, Texas Health and Safety Code among other causes of action.

In addition to chemical discharge into the atmosphere, wastewater tanks at the Arkema plant also spilled pollutants into the ground water system. According to Mo Aziz “Liberty County has the right to enforce environmental laws to protect its population and resources.”
