Not all semi trucks have EOBRs installed in them, and while there is pending legislation regarding these recorders, it is not currently mandatory to have them installed. Recorders will be programmed to keep the original data digitally recorded so that in a truck accident, safety officials can easily retrieve the data without concern that it’s been forged or changed.
