Two people were killed and at least another 40 were injured when a tour bus headed to the Choctaw Casino rolled over on the President George Bush Turnpike, State Highway 161, in Irving. At least three to four of the bus passengers are in critical condition following the single vehicle commercial bus crash.
On the Cypress campus of the Lone Star Community College just outside Houston, a man armed with a knife went on a stabbing spree, injuring as many as 14 students. At least four of the injury victims had to be airlifted from campus for medical treatment.
Each time the Missouri City Fire Department responds to a motor vehicle accident it will be sending out a bill for its services under a new 'crash tax' provision set to take effect March 1. The Houston suburb says the new tax will raise about $50,000 annually and help shore up budget concerns.
The cruise ship Carnvial Triumph left port at Galveston last Thursday, destined to cruise the Gulf of Mexico. Instead it site, disabled, with passengers aboard complaining of flooding and feces on the luxury cruiseliner, about 150 feet miles of the Mexican coast. A fire broke out in the Triumph's engine room and turned the ship into a sitting duck. No serious injuries have yet been reported from the stranded cruise ship.
Three of the injured passengers from last week's fatal bus crash in Texas remain hospitalized.
