Hospital Explosion Leaves One Dead, Fifteen Injured

On June 26, 2018, a small 25-bed hospital in Gatesville, Texas, was the scene of a terrible, but likely avoidable tragedy. Fifteen construction workers suffered burns and shrapnel injuries when an electric generator exploded. Construction worker Michael Bruggman, 44, was killed in the explosion. Questions remain as to whether this tragedy was the result of a faulty natural gas line, or from an issue with the generator itself.

More Than Two Dozen Killed in Fireworks Blast

Explosions ripped through the San Pablito fireworks market north of Mexico City on Tuesday, killing at least 29 people and injuring dozens more. The explosion occurred in Tultepec, about 25 miles north of Mexico City. The town is known for its pyrotechnics industry and the market is popular for fireworks sales. The market was especially crowded as locals shopped for fireworks to mark Christmas and New Year celebrations. The cause of the explosion was not immediately known; however, this is the third such explosion to occur at the market since 2005.

$20M Verdict Upheld by Appellate Court

Pengxuan "Dean" Diao was 23 years old when a Southern California Gas Co. employee opened a natural gas valve that activated a gas line that ran to the garage apartment where he was sleeping on January 19, 2011. The room filled with natural gas and exploded when Diao woke up and lit a cigarette.

More Than 200 Lives Lost To Texas Oil And Gas Boom

According the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, 663 oil and gas workers have been killed in work-related accidents during the boom years of 2007-2012. It's estimated that just under half of those fatal oil and gas accidents (40 percent) occurred here in Texas. In total, there have been close to 18,000 reports of injury and illness related to oil and gas exploration, extraction and production in Texas since 2007.

Two Injured, Homes Destroyed In Gas Pipeline Blast

A gas pipeline owned by Columbia Gulf Transmission was determined to be the cause of a Kentucky gas pipeline explosion that occurred yesterday. At least one person was taken to the hospital for treatment of burn injuries; another was reported injured but may have been treated at the scene. The gas explosion leveled homes in the rural area and destroyed farm buildings and vehicles.

After Oil Rig Explosion, Seriously Burned Worker Files Suit

A former pipefitter is suing Black Elk Energy LLC of Houston, after a 2012 oil rig explosion in the Gulf of Mexico left him with serious burns covering much of his body as well as his face. In the same explosion, three other oil workers, who were employed by Grand Isle Shipyard, Inc. were killed.

One Man Seriously Injured In Eagle Ford Shale Blast

A safety check went all wrong this week, sending a man to a San Antonio hospital with serious injuries. Investigators initially believe that static electricity is to blame for an explosion that involved diesel and salt water storage tanks in Karnes City, part of the Eagle Ford Shale play.

Karnes County Oil Rig Explodes, Injures Six

An oil rig exploded earlier this morning near Falls City, Texas, leaving at least three injured workers suffering from second and third degree burns. At least six rig workers were injured in the blast by the explosion itself or the expulsion of scalding hot water and steam from the rig.
