In February of 2017, Timothy Piazza was a student at Penn State and a victim of fraternity hazing. Then 19 years old, Piazza was pledging to join Beta Theta Pi and required to attend a bid acceptance night at the fraternity's house. He consumed large amounts alcohol due to being forced to participate in drinking games and hazing activities.

Blake Novacek, son of former Dallas Cowboys tight end Jay Novacek, is suing Oklahoma University-based fraternity Beta Theta Pi and affiliated organizations for significant injuries he sustained after he was hit by a baseball bat in a hazing ritual. According to the lawsuit, Novacek is seeking monetary relief of more than $150,000 from Beta Theta Pi, Beta Theta Pi Corporation of Oklahoma, the Gamma Phi (OU) Chapter of Beta Theta Pi, as well as Shane Muselmann and Gavin Martindale, two members of the Gamma Phi Chapter who were allegedly involved in the incident.
A former Kappa Alpha Psi member at Stevenson University in Baltimore County has filed a $4 million hazing lawsuit stating that he was beaten so severely that he was hospitalized for a week. The lawsuit alleges that between January and March of 2013, Johnny Powell II suffered through weeks of hazing, beating, and false imprisonment. Powell looked forward to joining the fraternity's charter class of Stevenson and never imagined that joining meant he would be put through weeks of trauma.
The timesunion.com is reporting that the parents of a Boston College honors student who drowned last year after binge drinking at Skidmore College have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against nine Saratoga County men for allegedly supplying or buying alcohol for their underage son. The suit was filed earlier this week by Kenneth and Deanna Grant of Westchester County on behalf of their son's estate.
