HNBA Now Accepting Applications for Legal Education Action Program

The Hispanic National Bar Association's Legal Education Fund (HNBA-LEF) is now accepting applications for its high school pipeline program the Legal Education Action Program (LEAP). This year LEAP is being held in Houston, Texas on June 21-28th. LEAP was started in 2013 in order to provide Hispanic students with a legal education-immersion program that allows students to learn about the legal profession from different perspectives. The goal of LEAP is to increase the number of Hispanics entering the legal field.

Benny Agosto Hosts Reception for Senator Menendez

On Friday, August 17, Benny Agosto, Jr., Partner of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Sorrels, Agosto & Friend, and National President of the Hispanic National Bar Association, hosted a reception and fundraiser for United States Senator Robert Menendez. Senator Menendez has been legislating on behalf of the State of New Jersey since 2005, and is running for reelection this year. As the sixth Latino to serve in the U.S. Senate, Senator Menendez represents the interests of the Latino community nationwide. Additionally, he serves on the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Finance and Foreign Relations committees.

The Hispanic National Bar Association Participates in Selma-Montgomery March and Takes Action For Civil Rights

Washington, D.C. - On March 7th, the HNBA joined other national partners in a rally and press conference to launch a bus trip to Selma, Alabama from where the groups participated in a historic recreation of the 1965 Selma to Montgomery, AL march led by Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Hispanic National Bar Association President Benny Agosto, Jr. Proudly Announces the Veterans Legal Initiative Program

The Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) recently announced the launch of its new Veterans Legal Initiative Program ("Veterans Initiative"), in an effort to provide free legal services to the men and women of the American armed forces and their families. The Veterans Initiative is part of HNBA National President Benny Agosto, Jr.'s "Year of the Advocate" and will organize HNBA members to volunteer at local Departments of Veterans' Affairs, American Legion posts, and Veterans of Foreign Wars locations, as well as opening their own free legal clinics.

First Latina Appointed as Director of the Domestic Policy Council

On January 10, 2012, President Barack Obama announced that longtime immigration reform advocate Cecilia Munoz would be joining the White House as director of the Domestic Policy Council.

Former HNBA President Confirmed as Justice

I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate a good friend of mine, Jimmie Reyna, on his recent appointment to the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. On April 4th, the Senate confirmed Jimmie by a vote of 86-0, making him the first Latino to occupy the position of Circuit Judge on that court.
