The scholarships are awarded to outstanding law students who best exemplify leadership, commitment, justice and equality within the Hispanic community and beyond. Scholarships are awarded to law students from each of the three Houston-based law schools.

Senator Menendez has been legislating on behalf of the State of New Jersey since 2005, and is running for reelection this year. As the sixth Latino to serve in the U.S. Senate, Senator Menendez represents the interests of the Latino community nationwide. Additionally, he serves on the Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, Finance and Foreign Relations committees.
On January 18, 2012, Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) President Benny Agosto Jr. met with Senior White House and Agency Officials along with other Latino leaders from across the nation to discuss several policy areas affecting the Latino population. Agosto was also among a select group of Latino leaders to participate in an intimate question-and-answer session recently with Vice-President Joe Biden and U.S. Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar.
