Randy has recently completed his year as President of the State Bar of Texas during the 2019 – 2020 bar year. During that year leading the bar, he also was lead counsel in two trials – including a trial that resulted in a $12 million judgment. Randy began his career at the prestigious Fulbright & Jaworski law firm, where he tried more cases than anyone in his entering class. He made a lateral move to Abraham Watkins in 1990, and became one of the youngest partners in firm history. He now serves as the firm’s Managing Partner. His legal practice primarily focuses on representing individuals and family members who have been harmed by personal injury, wrongful death, medical malpractice, and business disputes. Randy has tried dozens of cases to verdict and is double board certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law. His successful verdicts and settlements are only out shadowed by his works in the community.
South Texas College of Law Houston has named it’s legal clinics after him – The Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics. He is a past president of the Houston Bar Association, Texas Association of Civil Trial & Appellate Specialists, Houston Trial Lawyers Association, Houston Dispute Resolution Center, Houston Trial Lawyers Foundation, and Houston Lawyer Referral Service. He has also served as Chair of the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation.
Randy has received the Distinguished Alumni Award from South Texas College of Law Houston, as well as the highest award given by the law school, the Dean’s Medal. He serves on the Board of Directors of the law school and chairs the Audit Committee. He has been awarded the Judge Sam Williams Award by the State Bar of Texas, the President’s Award by the State Bar of Texas and the Houston Bar Association, and was named the Outstanding Young Lawyer of Houston with the Woodrow B. Seals Award. His undergraduate university, Houston Baptist University, named awarded him the Distinguished Alumnus Award and placed him in the Walk of Honor. Best Lawyers in America has recognized him as the Medical Malpractice Plaintiff’s Lawyer of the Year on three separate occasions. He has written and spoken extensively and is often selected as an expert witness in legal malpractice claims.
