(HOUSTON, July 31, 2014) – Houston attorney Randy Sorrels filed a wrongful death lawsuit today against Silverleaf Resorts, Inc., operating company of the Piney Shore Resort, where an 8-year-old boy recently drowned.
The lawsuit was filed in Montgomery County District Court on behalf of the family of Andrew Orvis. The boy was at the Piney Shore Resort on Lake Conroe in Montgomery County, Texas on July 20 when he fell from a dock where he had been sitting and dipping his feet in the lake’s water.
Andrew was immediately pulled from the water by his father and given CPR at the scene by both his father and later Montgomery County EMS and Conroe Fire Department. He was airlifted to Memorial Hermann Hospital in Houston, Texas, where he was pronounced dead.
There are indications that Andrew Orvis may have been electrocuted before he drowned.
The City of Conroe recently cited the resort for code violations after investigators determined that electrical wiring on the dock posed an extreme danger. The investigation revealed that energized wiring on the dock was exposed, and that ground fault interrupters designed to prevent electrocution were not operating properly. Pictures of the violations reportedly confirm the exposed wiring and malfunction of ground fault interrupters.
