Man loses vision in eye after following prescription instructions.
(Houston, TX) Attorney Imrana Manzanares of the Houston law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner has filed suit against CVS Pharmacy, Inc., CVS Caremark Corporation, and CVS Pharmacy, asserting that the pharmacy was negligent in dispensing an incorrect prescription, causing an elderly man to suffer permanent damage to his optic nerve and loss of vision in one eye.
In June of 2012, Claudis Alston, then 64-years old, visited the Emergency Room at Houston Methodist Hospital to treat his eye condition. On June 20th, 2012, Mr. Alston picked up his prescription from Methodist Hospital and took it to be filled at the CVS Pharmacy located at 12601 Tomball Parkway in Houston, Texas.
According to the lawsuit, CVS Pharmacy received a prescription request for Cortisporin Ophthalmic Suspension to treat pink eye in Mr. Alston’s left eye. The pharmacy instead filled the prescription with Neomycin-Polymyxin-HC Ear Soln, used to treat ear infections, and instructed Mr. Alston to “instill 3 drops in each eye twice daily for 5 days.” As instructed, Mr. Alton placed the drops in his eyes and lost vision in his left eye by 4:00 p.m. the same day.
The lawsuit was filed on June 17th, 2014 in Harris County.
