BENNY AGOSTO JR(HOUSTON) Houston lawyer Benny Agosto Jr. was recently elected as president of the Legal Education Fund (LEF) of the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA). The Legal Education Fund is a not-for-profit charitable organization dedicated to promoting educational programs that expose underrepresented students and professionals to opportunities in the legal profession. It provides scholarships and financial support so that students from underrepresented communities can pursue legal careers. It is the only foundation affiliated with the HNBA.

The Legal Education Fund of the HNBA provides law student scholarship funding, community outreach programming, a week-long law camp (LEAP Program) for high-school students of diverse backgrounds, and an annual publication, HNBA Journal of Law and Policy. Past President Omar Vargas said, “In the past five years, the Fund has grown in new and innovative ways and I am confident that under the leadership of Benny Agosto the Fund’s next couple of years will be our best.”

Agosto is a co-founder of the HNBA’s Legal Education Fund along with attorneys Roman Hernandez and Omar Vargas. He is a former national president of the HNBA, serving in 2011-2012. He is also the founder of the Mexican American Bar Association of Texas (MABATx) Foundation. He is a partner at the Houston personal injury law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner.

Other new LEF board members include Aida Rodriguez and Gregory Kenney. Ms. Rodriguez is the executive director of Special Counsel’s Miami, Florida, office. Mr. Kenney is Exxon Mobil Corporation’s Downstream Commercial Litigation counsel. Incoming President Agosto said, “The LEF thanks Omar Vargas for his years of leadership and service. I am honored to take over as the president of the Fund, and I am very excited to work with the new board members, Aida Rodriguez and Gregory Kenney.”
