A TBLS induction ceremony and reception are planned for Feb. 14, 2014, at the AT&T Conference Center in Austin.
Only 9 percent of Texas’ 90,000 lawyers achieve board certification and the right to call themselves a specialist in their respective practice area(s). Just slightly less than 2 percent of Texas attorneys have earned the right to be called an expert in personal injury trial law, as is allowed for those who achieve board certification as Mr. Ford has done.
To be eligible for consideration, an attorney must have been in practice for at least five years and must have at least three years of meaningful experience in his or her specialty area. In the context of Personal Injury Trial Law, this means actually trying cases before juries. Mr. Ford applied for consideration to the TBLS Personal Injury Trial Law Advisory Commission in 2013. After his application was accepted, he was required to pass a daylong exam evidencing his skills and subject matter expertise to become board certified.
Mr. Ford has been building his legal career with Abraham Watkins since 2010. After graduating with honors from the University of Texas School of Law, he spent a year as a federal clerk at the United States Court of Appeals for the 5th Circuit before entering private practice in 2008.
In 2013, Mr. Ford was selected for inclusion in the Super Lawyers Rising Stars listing and was selected as a Fellow of both the Texas and the Houston Bar Foundations. He was also named one of the Top 100 Texas Trial Lawyers as well as one of the Top 40 Texas Attorneys Under 40 by the National Trial Lawyers Association.
