The Houston law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner is hosting a press conference on Wednesday, January 10 th at 1:00 p.m. to discuss the lawsuit. .

Houston attorneys, Mo Aziz of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner and Joe House and Ben House of House Perron & House PLLC represent the parents of Manuel Delacruz against the Port Arthur Police Department and the Medical Center of Southeast Texas for the unnecessary and avoidable death of their 26 year old son, Manuel Delacruz.

Manuel Delacruz was an aspiring boxer who once represented Team USA in international competitions. Unfortunately Manuel developed a severe mental illness in his early twenties and suffered from schizophrenia.

On August 1, 2016, Manuel’s parents and family members took him to the Medical Center of Southeast Texas due to a severe psychotic episode. After several hours at the hospital, without any medical treatment, hospital staff insisted that Manuel strip and change into a gown. Manuel, who was in the midst of a psychotic episode, refused and the Port Arthur PD and hospital security staff deemed his actions as non-compliant and proceeded to strike, tase, and smother Manuel. Manuel Delacruz died at the scene in view of his parents and family members. The initial investigation reveals that the hospital security staff was not licensed and registered with the State of Texas.

The press conference is open to all media and will be held at the law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner, located at 800 Commerce Street, Houston, TX, 77002.
