The Houston personal injury law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner congratulates firm Partner Benny Agosto, Jr. on his election as the 2014-2015 Chair of the Hispanic Issues Section of the State Bar of Texas.

Mr. Agosto will be sworn in on Thursday, June 26, 2014 at the State Bar of Texas Annual Meeting in Austin, Texas, by longtime friend and former Chair of the Hispanic Issues Section, Honorable Patricia O. Alvarez of the Fourth Court of Appeals of Texas. After serving as Chair-Elect and being named the 2013 recipient of the Peter Torres, Jr. Community Service Award by the Hispanic Issues Section, Mr. Agosto is excited to continue working with such a driven group of individuals.

The purpose of the Hispanic Issues Section is to study and report on laws, judicial decisions, and governmental regulations which may affect the particular needs of the Hispanic community of Texas. The Section also strives to provide a common meeting ground and forum for members of the legal profession to consider special issues regarding the constitutional rights of the Hispanic community, and to take action to protect those rights, subject to the Bylaws of the Hispanic Issues Section and the laws, rules, and regulations of the State Bar of Texas. The law firm of Abraham Watkins believes that Mr. Agosto exemplifies the characteristics needed to succeed as the Chair of the Hispanic Issues Section.

Mr. Agosto’s lifelong goal is to make a difference in his community.

He served as President of both the Hispanic National Bar Association (HNBA) and the Mexican-American Bar Association of Texas (MABATx). Mr. Agosto founded the MABATx Scholarship Foundation, and more recently co-founded the HNBA Legal Education Fund, both of which benefit Hispanic Law students. In May of 2013, he participated in a White House gathering of top Hispanic business leaders focused on business and economic development within the Hispanic community. He will be honored as an Anti-Defamation League (ADL) Civil Rights Medal recipient by the ADL at the Houston in Concert Against Hate: A Theatre Tribute to American Civil Rights in November of 2014.

Last year marked the ninth consecutive year that Mr. Agosto was named to Texas Super Lawyers, a list published annually by Texas Monthly magazine. He has also been featured in national periodicals, such as the July/August 2011 issue of Hispanic Executive magazine, and the 101 Most Influential Leaders in the Latino Community special issues of Latino Leaders Magazine in both 2011 and 2012.

Mr. Agosto has been a Partner at Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner since 2004.

For 70 years, Abraham Watkins has been one of the leading law firms in Houston as well as the oldest plaintiffs’ personal injury law firm in Texas.
