For over 22 years, Benny has practiced personal injury at Abraham Watkins. He is board certified in personal injury trial law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, and his practice focuses on representing individuals and family members who have been harmed by the negligence of others in cases involving catastrophic injuries, including chemical plant and refinery explosions, workplace accidents, wrongful death, premises liability, and products liability. He currently is lead/co-lead attorney in a number of large chemical plant fire and explosion cases throughout Texas. In 2018, Benny was recognized by TopVerdict.com for obtaining one of the Top 100 Premises Liability Settlements in the United States for that year.

Benny served as the 2019-2020 President of the Houston Bar Association. He was the first Spanish-speaking President of the HBA and led one of the largest metropolitan bar associations in the country, which had close to 11,000 members. During his presidency, Benny established many initiatives to benefit the Houston legal community. To name just a few of the goals he accomplished, Benny helped the HBA establish the Ruby Kless Sondock Award for top female attorneys in Houston, its first Diversity Summit, and its first LGBTQ+ Committee. He is a former President of the Hispanic National Bar Association, the Founder and President of the Mexican-American Bar Association of Texas Foundation, the Founding Editor of the South Texas College of Law Houston Hispanic Journal of Law and Policy, and a Founding Member and Chair of the Houston Bar Association’s LGBTQ+ Committee. He currently serves as a member of the State Bar of Texas Board of Directors and President of the Hope Disaster Recovery Board of Directors.
