(Houston, TX) Randy Sorrels, Managing Partner at the Houston personal injury law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner, was sworn in as President-Elect of the State Bar of Texas at the State Bar’s Annual Meeting on June 21, 2018 in Houston, Texas. He will serve as the 139 th President of the State Bar beginning in June 2019.
Mr. Sorrels is double board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization, a distinction that fewer than .1 percent of attorneys in Texas hold. His practice focuses on representing clients involved in serious personal injury, catastrophic events, wrongful death, and business disputes. He has been recognized annually on the Top 100: Texas Super Lawyers list since 2007 and the Top 100: Houston Super Lawyers list since 2006. He was also named Best Lawyers® Medical Malpractice Law – Plaintiffs “Lawyer of the Year” in Houston for two years.
In addition to practicing law, Mr. Sorrels has a long history of service through positions held in professional organizations. He has served as President of the Houston Bar Association, the Houston Trial Lawyers Association, and the Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists. He has also served as Chair of the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation. Several organizations have recognized Mr. Sorrels for his successful leadership, including the State Bar of Texas with the President’s Award and the Judge Sam Williams Award, as well as the Houston Bar Association with the President’s Award.
Mr. Sorrels is a magna cum laude graduate of both the Houston Baptist University (HBU) and South Texas College of Law Houston. Since graduating at HBU, he has received the HBU Distinguished Alumnus Award, is a member of the HBU Walk of Honor, and HBU has named their soccer field the Randall O. Sorrels Soccer Field. He currently serves on South Texas College of Law Houston’s Board of Directors and has been honored with The Dean’s Medal, the school’s highest award, as well as the inaugural Public Service Award. The legal clinics at the law school are named The Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics, which currently houses 19 different legal clinics.
