(Houston, TX) Attorney Randy Sorrels, partner at the Houston personal injury law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner and President-Elect of the State Bar of Texas, is the 2018 recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from South Texas College of Law Houston. The Distinguished Alumni Award, the highest honor presented by the school’s Alumni Association, is presented to one alumnus in recognition of his or her outstanding accomplishments in the community, the legal profession, and at South Texas College of Law Houston. Mr. Sorrels received this annual award at the Alumni Association Annual Meeting and Luncheon on Friday, October 19, 2018.
Mr. Sorrels graduated in 1987 in the top five of his class at STCLH. He was a member of the National Mock Trial Program and served on the South Texas Law Review. Mr. Sorrels serves on the Board of Directors of the law school and is a long-time supporter. In 2012, South Texas named its legal clinics the Randall O. Sorrels Legal Clinics. These 19 clinics connect clients with students who work to address legal needs of clients under the supervision of their law school professors. This year marks his third year to be recognized by South Texas College of Law Houston. He was honored by the Alumni Association with the inaugural Public Service Award in 2006 and by the school with its highest honor, the Dean’s Medal, in 2006.
Not only has Mr. Sorrels made significant contributions to his alma mater but also to the legal profession. He is a well-respected trial attorney across Texas and is double board certified in Personal Injury Trial Law and Civil Trial Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. In addition to representing his clients who have been harmed by the negligence of others, he is also a leader in the legal community. He is the managing partner of Abraham Watkins and is a past President of the Houston Bar Association, Houston Trial Lawyers Association, and Texas Association of Civil Trial and Appellate Specialists.
Mr. Sorrels’ efforts in the legal community have been recognized by the State Bar of Texas who awarded him the President’s Award and Judge Sam Williams Award, two of the highest honors given by the bar. He was also the recipient of the President’s Award from the Houston Bar Association and the Woodrow B. Seals Outstanding Young Lawyer of Houston Award from the Houston Young Lawyers Association. He has been named the Best Lawyers ® 2019 Medical Malpractice Law – Plaintiffs “Lawyer of the Year” in Houston for the th ird year. Most recently, he was selected to the Top 100: Texas Super Lawyers list for the 12 th year, the Top 100: Houston Super Lawyers list for the 13 th year, and the Texas Super Lawyers list for the 16 th year.
