Firm Partner Benny Agosto, Jr. Has Been Named The 2013 Recipient Of The Peter Torres, Jr. Community Service Award

In recognition of his service to the Hispanic community, Benny Agosto, Jr. will receive the Peter Torres, Jr. Community Service Award from the Hispanic Issues Section of The State Bar of Texas.

Recognizing his stewardship of the Hispanic community, Benny Agosto, Jr. of the Houston law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner, has been chosen to receive the 2013 Peter Torres, Jr. Community Service Award. The recipient of this award is chosen annually from nominations received by the Hispanic Issues Section of the State Bar of Texas and reflect both individuals and organizations with a history of service to the Hispanic community.

Mr. Agosto’s contributions to the Hispanic community are numerous and growing. He has served as past President of both the Mexican American Bar Association of Texas and the Hispanic National Bar Association. Through these leadership roles, Mr. Agosto has brought awareness to the issues that face the Hispanic community at the state and national levels. He was recently invited to attend the first-ever Hispanic Business Leaders’ Forum at the White House.

Mr. Agosto has promoted both educational and career opportunities for Hispanic students and professionals. Along with his daughter, he co-authored “Victoria Goes To Court,” an educational children’s book explaining the importance and function of the court system in a democracy. He founded the MABATx Foundation with a mission to provide scholarships for Hispanic students pursuing the study of law. Mr. Agosto has tirelessly advocated for the appointment to the federal judiciary of Hispanic legal professionals across the country.

Named after Peter Torres, Jr., who promoted awareness of issues uniquely facing Hispanics throughout Texas and became the first Chair of the Hispanic Issues Section of the State Bar of Texas, Mr. Agosto was humbled to be chosen as the 2013 Peter Torres, Jr. Community Service Award recipient. Mr. Agosto will be presented with the award at the Minority Reception on Friday, June 21st at the Lowes Anatole Hotel in Dallas, Texas.
