(Houston, TX) The Houston law firm of Abraham, Watkins, Nichols, Agosto, Aziz & Stogner is proud to announce that Alexandra Farias-Sorrels has joined the firm as Of Counsel. She joined Abraham Watkins in April 2019, bringing many years of “bet-the-company” litigation experience with her. Her current practice at the firm focuses on a wide range of personal injury matters, including products liability, medical malpractice, premises liability, and car and truck accidents.
After graduating cum laude from the University of Miami, Alexandra attended the University of Miami School of Law, where she graduated in the top 10% of her law school class. During law school, Alexandra interned for the appellate division of the U.S. Attorney’s office in Houston and for Legal Services of Greater Miami.
As part of a fellowship program following law school, Alexandra served as a full-time law clerk for U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Jeff Bohm for one year. During this time, she also worked part-time at Abraham Watkins, where she received her first exposure to plaintiffs’ work, specifically personal injury cases and business disputes. In her second year of practice, she was a briefing attorney for the Supreme Court of Texas, clerking for Justice David Medina. She assisted the Court in assessing complex state law issues and also helped draft the Court’s opinions.
After her term with the Supreme Court of Texas, Alexandra joined the international law firm Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, a Philadelphia-based firm with over 2,200 lawyers worldwide. She practiced in the firm’s Houston litigation section for five years and focused mostly on complex commercial cases and insurance recovery cases. She also handled products liability and personal injury cases, including aircraft crashes. She served as first-chair counsel in more than ten trials and was often called on to assist on thorny appellate issues. Alexandra’s largest victory came in an arbitration award, as she was instrumental in securing an almost $300 million arbitration award on behalf of a major Fortune 500 company on a fraudulent transfer claim.
In addition to practicing law, Alexandra is active in the legal community as a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Texas Trial Lawyers Association, the Houston Young Lawyers Association, and the Houston Bar Association. She is also a Trustee of the Houston Young Lawyers Foundation, and starting in mid-June, will be a Trustee of the Texas Bar Foundation.
